Vanuatu has an extraordinary variety of natural wonders to offer from active Volcanoes to idyllic islands turquoise lagoons, stunning bays, coral reefs, beautiful flora and fauna , lush tropical forests, and perhaps most importantly its own unique traditional culture. It is a privilege to witness a little of this spectacular living cultural wealth. Many destinations offer travellers a commercialized “eco–tourism “product, but if ever there was a natural “eco-tourism” destination, it has to be here in the islands of fire and magic.

How to get to Vanuatu

There are regular flights to Vanuatu from Australia (Brisbane, Sydney,) New Caledonia (Noumea), New Zealand (Auckland) and Fiji (Nadi).

Be Aware!

Whilst hotels and restaurants
can be found in both Port Vila and Luganville on Santo, the services available elsewhere consist of very basic adventure style lodges.

 

However if you are prepared to forgo a little comfort, they offer a unique opportunity to witness and share the unspoilt nature and culture of this magnificent island group. The rural establishments are often community or family operated lodges and Bungalows.

Simply constructed from local materials, many do not have electricity, or other familiar hotel amenities.

Whilst basic is their facilities, the accommodation is always clean, tidy and located in natural and peaceful environments. Most have 5 or 8 bungalows and except at times of special cultural events or celebrations, there is rarely more than 10 or 18 guest.

Bathroom facilities are very often shared and in some cases toilets are totally ecological! To assist you we have established a rough rating using shells to indicate the standards. These do not compare to the internationally recognized standards rated using stars.

Most offer basic, plentiful meals prepared using local seasonal fruit and vegetables, fish, chicken, beef and occasionally pork. Where limited bar facilities are mentioned, this is often restricted to beer, wine and soft drink


You are more than welcome to bring your own wines or favourite spirits with you. If there is no generator there will be no fridge.

The outer Island tours are only recommended for the adventure minded traveler who is prepared to accept simple comfort in exchange for an extraordinary experience.
